As someone who actively monitors the political landscape in Nigeria, Since the return of Democracy in 1999, I have watched several party leaders come and go both in the ruling APC and other prominent political parties and I cannot but praise the giant strides that have been made by the All Progressive Congress since Mai Mala Buni assumed the role of caretaker chairman of the Party.
Many would have forgotten that when Buni came into the helms of affairs that the party was having a lot of internal crisis which eventually led to the ousting of Comrade Adams Oshiomole. The political-cum-architectural wizardry of Governor Buni in re-arranging the blocks that built APC within such a short period, which saved the party from anarchy, disintegration, and what seemed like an imminent extinction, was quite miraculous and heartwarming for all lovers of democracy and, in particular, members of APC.
Under the Leadership of Buni, The party’s reconciliation committee has substantially reconciled various factions in the party in some affected states, viz: Bauchi, Bayelsa, Cross River, Edo, Ekiti, Enugu, Zamfara, Ondo, Oyo states.
Governor Buni constituted various committees to handle various assignments irrespective of local factional politics of who belongs to what team in the state chapters. He is convinced that fairness and accommodation of all members will promote unity and cohesion within the party, and that is undoubtedly a winning approach: everyone feels a sense of belonging.
Buni’s handling of the party has made the APC so attractive that even a number of Governors from the opposition party have defected to the APC with their entire camp.
I can go on and on about the achievements and giant strides of the Buni lead APC but the stats are there to speak for itself.
